Senior lawmaker calls for SARB nationalisation

The secretary general of South Africa's dominant political party has called for the nationalisation of the country's central bank.

South African media reported over the weekend that Gwede Mantashe, the secretary general of the African National Congress (ANC), had suggested that the South African Reserve Bank should be under state ownership by saying: "Including discussing the fact that the South African Reserve Bank is one of less than five central banks in private hands in the world."
