EC's Barroso says stability pact deal possible

In an interview with Italian daily La Stampa, European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso said he believes it will be easier for EU states to reach a compromise over reforms to the stability and growth pact than on future contributions to the EU budget.

He thinks a solution regarding possible adjustments to the pact can be found by end-June at the latest, though "we must not throw away the pact," Barroso said in the interview with Italian daily La Stampa.

He added that he is against certain
