Senate confirms new nominees to Federal Reserve

US - The US Senate on Wednesday confirmed President Bush's two latest nominees to the Federal Reserve Board, Princeton economist Ben Bernanke and Donald Kohn, a long-time staff aide at the central bank.

At their confirmation hearing this week, Bernanke and Kohn promised they would work toward making the Fed's decision-making process more open and understandable to the public and financial markets. They also signalled strong support for the monetary policies pursued over the last 20 years by Fed
