Uruguay to see 2% growth in 2001

Uruguay's economy minister said Tuesday he expects the small South American economy to shake two years of recession and economic stagnation and grow by 2% in 2001. "We are counting on a recuperation in our economy of 2%... and a consequent rise in employment," economy minister Alberto Bension told a forum of business leaders.

Central bank president Cesar Rodriguez also said Tuesday that Uruguay will maintain in 2001 its policy of devaluing its peso currency by a monthly 0.6% against the US dollar
