MAS can ease rupiah woes, says Gus Dur

Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid said that he disagreed with Singapore's senior minister Lee Kuan Yew over the role the Monetary Authority of Singapore could play in stopping commercial banks from speculating on the rupiah.

He recalled telling Mr Lee 'that the central bank of Singapore should advise commercial banks to stop dealing' in the Indonesian currency. 'He said the Singaporean central bank has no authority over commercial banks. 'In a way, he said that the Government of Singapore
