BoJ's Fukui expects gradual rate hikes

Bank of Japan governor Toshihiko Fukui told lawmakers Friday 23 February that he is "open" to options of further rate hikes.

Fukui told the lower house budget committee that the BoJ's decision to raise short-term interest rates on Wednesday was based on refreshed analysis of previous and recent data.

Asked about the possibility of further rate hikes, Fukui replied, "At this point in time we are completely open about what the future monetary policy should be like specifically.
