BOT chief downplays concern over weakening of baht

THAILAND - Bank of Thailand's Governor Pridiyathorn Devakula has downplayed mounting concern over the weakening of the baht against the US dollar, saying it would be a temporary phenomenon.

He said the depreciation was in line with that of other regional currencies being affected by eroded confidence of investors in the wake of the tragic bomb blasts in the Indonesian resort island of Bali, the Thai News Agency reported today.

The baht had fallen by around 20 satang to 43.93 baht against US
