Ecuador inflation slows in Dec 2000 to 2.5 pct

Ecuador's consumer price inflation slowed to 2.5 percent in December 2000 compared with 5.6 percent a year earlier, the Institute of Statistics (INEC) said on Dec 29. In November 2000, the consumer price index was 2.2 percent.

Annual inflation for the year 2000 totaled 91.0 percent, compared with 60.7 percent in 1999, when the Andean country posted Latin America's highest inflation rate the second year in a row. Both figures were higher than the Central Bank expected, having calculated December's
