Polish gov't may seek halt to c bank independence

POLAND - The Sejm (lower house of parliament) public finances committee will resume legislative work on changes in the law on the Polish National Bank (NBP) after it has finished work on the 2003 budget, that is in the second half of November, committee head Stanislaw Stec said on Wednesday.

In late June, PAP news agency reported, the committee sent three proposals of changes in the law, of which two are evaluated by analysts as leading to the curtailment of the central bank's independence. These
