Canadian inflation falls for fourth straight month

Core inflation in Canada slumped to 1.4% in the 12 months to March, heightening expectations of a rate cut next week.

A slowdown in energy-price inflation helped reduce the core measure, down from 1.8% the previous month. Petrol costs rose by 7.9% in the year to March, compared with 17.1% in February. However, the pace of mortgage price growth quickened from 8.1% to 8.3%.
