Canada's gold reserves fell last month

Canada's finance department revealed on Wednesday that it had sold part of its gold holding, with the proceeds to be used for buying other foreign currency securities.

Canada's gold reserves dwindled last month to half a million ounces, down 97% from its levels in 1980, as the department of finance continued its 23-year policy of selling off its gold holdings.

In a monthly update released yesterday, the Department of Finance said it sold 90,588 ounces of gold, or
