Fed's beige book - growth 'subdued' in early 2003

The Federal Reserve Beige Book released Wednesday showed that growth remained subdued in January and February. The evidence contained in the report forms a major part of the Fed's decision making process on the interest rate setting FOMC.

The U.S. economy "remained subdued" in the past two months as the prospect of war with Iraq constrained consumer and business spending, the Federal Reserve said in its latest survey of regional economic conditions.
