ECB cuts interest rates

EUROPE - The European Central Bank has cut interest rates by a quarter of a point to 4.25%.

The move was widely predicted by observers amid stagnating economic growth in Germany - Europe's traditional powerhouse - Italy and elsewhere.

Some thought that inflation in the 12-nation eurozone was still far above the 2% target for the Bank, which concentrates on monetary policy and has repeatedly disavowed any responsibility for encouraging growth, to make the move.

But recent months have seen price
