Fukui says BOJ cannot commit to govt growth target

Toshihiko Fukui said in minutes released on Friday 30 Aprilthat while the Bank of Japan was committed to fighting deflation it could not commit to a specific growth rate, distancing the BOJ from a government growth target.

Fukui, quoted in minutes of Monday's meeting of policy advisers to Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, said the BOJ would work closely with the government but would not be held accountable for the government's target for growth.
