Eichel supports ECB's Duisenberg

GERMANY - German Finance Minister Hans Eichel has lent his support to the European Central Bank's oft-criticized president, Wim Duisenberg, German business newspaper reported on 21 June.

"There is no reason for a debate about (Duisenberg's) successor," Eichel is quoted as saying.Duisenberg has sometimes been criticised for his leadership of the central bank, generating speculation that he could resign as early as next year.
