RBI to introduce currency futures

The Reserve Bank of India is set to introduce currency futures after finalising rules to sell the instruments on Thursday.

Indian residents can already trade currency forwards, but it is hoped that the new instruments will further enhance the hedging of currency risk.

"In the context of liberalisation of capital accounts, [and] also the continued development of financial markets, it is felt that wider hedging opportunities could enhance the flexibility for residents to manage their currency risk
