India's RBI relaxes credit limits for Gujarat

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Jan. 27, 2001, it has relaxed credit requirement limits for the state of Gujarat, which suffered major damage caused by a powerful earthquake on Jan. 26 that killed an estimated 8,000 people. The RBI said the move will help the Gujarat state government provide relief for areas damaged by the earthquake, which registered 7.9 on the Richter scale.
