Exports provide a boost to Japanese economy

JAPAN - The Japanese government on Wednesday confirmed that the country emerged from a year of economic recession in the April-June period by making a slight upward revision to second-quarter gross domestic product figures.

The revised figures showed that the economy grew by 0.6 per cent in April-June, or 2.6 per cent on an annualised basis. The numbers were slightly higher than initial estimates made at the end of August of 0.5 per cent growth, or 1.9 per cent on an annualised basis.
