Argentine peso falls as c bank gears to sell debt

ARGENTINA - Argentina's peso (ARS) opened weaker Friday as the central bank began selling money-market instruments in pesos and dollars to curb the currency's fall.

Moneychangers quoted the peso as falling as much as ARS2.60 against the dollar. Meanwhile, commercial banks quoted the peso at a midrate of around ARS2.45/dollar for interbank transactions. On Monday, the peso closed at ARS2.42/dollar.
