Bundesbank makes biggest profit since 2001

The Bundesbank posted €6.3 billion ($8 billion) profit last year, it emerged on Tuesday.

Axel Weber, the president of the Bundesbank, said most of the central bank's profits had been earned from lending money to banks. "The increase is above all due to profits on interest in euros," said Weber, adding that the increased value of the central bank's assets in dollars and its gold reserves had also contributed to the positive figures.
