Provinces press Canadian cb not to raise rates

Ontario was in the forefront of pressure from the Canadian provinces on Bank of Canada governor David Dodge not to raise interest rates.

At a meeting in the state of finance ministers from around the country, Ontario finance minister Gregory Sobara urged that higher rates would hurt manufacturers who have already suffered because of the surging value of the Canadian dollar over the US dollar, and he was backed by Alberta finance minister Lyle Oberg. The governor did not respond to questions
