Reserve Bank of Malawi must have greater autonomy

MALAWI - Economists in the country have called on the government to leave the country's Central Bank, the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) alone saying that creating the independence of the bank would benefit the whole nation.

According to an economist from the Chancellor College the reserve bank governor should not be answerable to the president because he can be easily manipulated in making inappropriate, political decisions. 'What if the President orders the governor to print more money to finance
