Next Bank of Canada boss expected to be named soon

With the election over, Bank of Canada watchers are expecting an announcement soon on who will replace Gordon Thiessen as governor of the central bank.

Sources say the search committee, headed by Saskatchewan lawyer Harold Mackay, has not yet submitted a candidate to the board of directors, which appoints the governor with the consent of federal finance minister Paul Martin.

Senior deputy governor Malcolm Knight is believed to be the leading contender for the post, while former deputy finance
