Turkmenistan central bank chief sacked

TURKMENISTAN - Turkmenistan's President Saparmyrat Nyyazow on Friday dismissed the chairman of the central bank "for abuse of office and in connection with criminal proceedings against him".

Interfax news agency in Moscow said Nyyazow told a government meeting that Imamdurdy Gandymow's dismissal followed criminal offences filed by central bank staff. The central bank head had only been appointed in May this year.
