Unipol considers appeal

The European Commission said it has not yet received a reply from the Italian authorities regarding its legal action against Italy over the involvement of its central bank in the takeover battle for Banca Antonveneta SpA.

EU Internal Market Commissioner Charlie McCreevy said: "The Italian banking issue is being investigated by my services and as you're aware, the letter was issued to the Italian authorities one month ago and I'm not aware that we have received a reply."
