Hayami, Japan's inflation target a reckless gamble

Japan's central bank governor Masaru Hayami said Friday the setting of an inflation target for Japan in an attempt to stop the long slide in prices would be a "reckless gamble". The comment comes at a time when the BOJ has faced pressure from some quarters to introduce a target for prices but has resisted the calls saying such a policy would lack credibility.

Hayami, who is due to retire from the Bank of Japan (BoJ) in March, has resisted a growing chorus of support for setting an inflation
