Governors serving limitless terms tend to earn lower salaries

But governors’ average salary remains over $200,000 a year

Central bank governors who can serve unlimited consecutive terms tend to earn lower salaries than colleagues serving between one and two terms, data from the Governance Benchmarks 2025 shows.

Among 18 jurisdictions with unlimited terms of service, governors earn a median salary of $153,635 per year. The data points lie between $1.7 million and $34,443 annually. However, the average annual income from the sample is $228,858 a year.
