Earnings power of economists remains above GDP per capita

Emerging market professionals earn lowest median salary, but incomes still more than double national average

Economists below director level at most central banks earn well above their nation’s GDP per capita, likely reflecting the skilled nature of the role.

The finding in the Economics Benchmarks 2022 is consistent with previous benchmarks. However, this year’s benchmark found a relatively low correlation between salaries and GDP per capita.
