Brief History

Established in 1882 under a 30-year charter, and then extended for a further 30 years. In 1942 the original legislation was superseded by law N°. 67 February 1942, when the bank became a permanent institution. Further substantial amendments occurred in 1949 with the appointment of a policy board, with the authority to formulate monetary and credit policies and supervise execution of such policies by bank officials.
