Brief History

Established under Royal Kram N°. N922NS in December 1954 as the National Bank of Cambodia (Banque Nationale du Cambodge). It is a 100% state-owned government agency with sole right of note issue and determines monetary policy in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Activities resumed in 1979 after the abolition of the banking system in 1975. A new central bank law was passed on 26 January 1996 (Law on the Organisation and Conduct of the National Bank of Cambodia)
