Staff at the Bank of England have voted to go on strike for what Unite, the UK trade union, said would be the first time in over 50 years.

Unite revealed the vote today (July 3), saying 95% voted in favour of strike action. If the dispute over pay is not settled, staff working in maintenance, security and “parlours” – support staff to senior officials – plan to strike from July 31 to August 3.

In a statement, Mercedes Sanchez, a regional officer for Unite, said the central bank’s sites
