Norges Bank says time is not yet right for easing

Central bank holds rates, but suggests cut is likely in March

Norway’s central bank today (January 23) kept its policy rate at 4.5% but signalled a cut was likely in March.

Norges Bank governor Ida Wolden Bache said the bank’s monetary policy committee remained concerned about upside risks to inflation from a “rapid rise in business costs”, and was therefore wary about easing policy too quickly.

However, she added that the time to begin easing was “soon approaching” and that if events turned out in the way the committee envisaged, interest rates could be cut
