Caribbean central banks continue their easing cycles

Central America and Caribbean Islands

Two Caribbean central banks announced identical rate cuts on Monday (September 30).

The Bank of Jamaica reduced its policy rate by 25 basis points to 6.5%.

The central bank noted in a statement that annual headline inflation stood at 6.5% in August, compared with 5.1% in July. However, it said core inflation had been 4.3% in August, and therefore remained on the downward trend seen throughout 2024.

The bank said it was “likely to” revise downwards its inflation projections for the next two years
