ECB invites entrants for wholesale ‘digital euro’ trial

CBDC work in 2024 will test Banque de France, Bank of Italy and Bundesbank DLT solutions

The European Central Bank invited expressions of interest from financial market stakeholders in its wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) trials, on December 13.  

It invited market participants with access to the Eurosystem’s Target payments and securities platforms, as well as distributed ledger technology (DLT) operators, to take part. The work is designed to “improve knowledge of new technologies”, the ECB said in its call paper.
