Lebanon’s acting governor says he will radically change course

Wassim Mansouri pledges cuts to central bank financing and demands action from politicians

The Central Bank of Lebanon’s first deputy governor became its acting head and warned he would sharply change course in a bid to tackle the country’s deep economic and political crisis.

Wassim Mansouri became the central bank’s acting governor on July 31, after Riad Salameh’s 30-year incumbency ended amid European authorities seeking his arrest. Mansouri made public statements promising major reforms, including ending unauthorised central bank financing of government.

He has become interim
