Shevchenko denies fleeing Ukraine and denounces ‘campaign’ against him
Governor says corruption leak is a smear and political pressure forced him from office
Ukraine’s recently resigned central bank governor strongly denied reports he fled the country after being notified he was under investigation for corruption today (October 6).
Kyrylo Shevchenko posted a statement on Facebook today saying he had left Ukraine for medical treatment as his health had been worsened by “political pressure”. He said he was aware that he was being investigated by Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Bureau, but had not left Ukraine for this reason.
