Region needs right institutional framework to benefit from rapid rise of fintech, authors say

Central banks in Latin America face a difficult “balancing act” between allowing fintech innovation and ensuring stability, research published by the Bank for International Settlements finds.

Authors Carlos Cantú and Barbara Ulloa say there is the potential for fintech to act as a “strong catalyst” for financial inclusion in the region. They use a survey of central banks, interviews with fintech firms and industry data to build up a picture of the fintech landscape.
