ECB changes largest eurozone banks’ leverage ratios
Latest emergency response to Covid-19 should raise banks’ leverage ratios by about 0.3%, ECB says
The European Central Bank is granting a temporary change in the leverage ratio for the eurozone’s largest banks, it announced today (September 17).
The ECB says that the eurozone’s largest banks, which it directly supervises, can exclude central bank exposures from their leverage ratios. These include coins and banknotes, but also deposits held at the central bank. It says the move aims to help banks cope with the “exceptional circumstances” caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
