Argentinian president appoints new governor
Miguel Angel Pesce rejects high interest rates as means of reducing inflation and backs price controls
Argentina’s incoming president, Alberto Fernández, appointed a new governor on December 6 following the resignation of Guido Sandleris last week.
Fernández chose Miguel Angel Pesce to lead the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA), as the South American economy grapples with a protracted recession, high inflation and low reserves. Pesce served as BCRA’s deputy governor from 2004–2015, during the presidencies of former presidents Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
