Spanish government nominates new central bank governor
Opposition demands reforms to give parliament a greater say in nomination process
The Spanish conservative prime minister Mariano Rajoy today (May 29) nominated a new governor of the Bank of Spain.
Rajoy’s appointee is Pablo Hernández de Cos, currently director-general of economics, statistics and research at the central bank. He replaces Luis Linde, whose six-year term expires on June 8. King Felipe VI is expected to confirm the appointment later today.
