The former New York Fed president helped avert several crises during his time in office
The banker and former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, William McDonough, has died aged 83.
McDonough’s tenure as New York Fed chief spanned the years between 1993 and 2003, and was marked by bouts of successful crisis-fighting, including a privately funded rescue for the hedge fund Long Term Capital Management and the provision of emergency liquidity in the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
