Oman’s sultan replaces governor and restructures board
Second-longest serving governor leaves as oil prices put economy under pressure
The ruler of Oman has announced the replacement of the country’s central bank governor after 26 years in office. Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who has been the absolute monarch governing the Middle Eastern state since 1970, also unveiled a major restructuring of the bank’s board today (September 6).
An official statement on the website of the Central Bank of Oman said Tahir bin Salim bin Abdullah Al Amri “has replaced” Hamood Sangour Al Zadjali as governor. No reason has been given for the change.
