Mozambique central bank praised for monetary framework overhaul
IMF staff approve of changes made towards interest rate corridor
International Monetary Fund staff have praised recent changes made by the Central Bank of Mozambique regarding its monetary policy framework.
In a statement published on July 19, Michel Lazare – assistant director of the IMF – paints a somewhat gloomy picture for the nation, focusing on the “urgent need” to further consolidate public finances. The IMF has refused to grant Mozambique a new programme until further reform measures are implemented by the government.
