Lael Brainard says institutions may choose to ‘reduce their systemic footprint’
Federal Reserve governor Lael Brainard suggested systemically important banks may choose to "reduce their systemic footprint" as regulatory standards tighten, in a speech in Washington, DC, on July 9.
Reflecting on the Dodd-Frank Act, Brainard said it was "notable" Congress chose not to impose major changes in the scope or scale of systemic institutions. Nonetheless, she said, those firms may choose to reign in their activities themselves.
