Chan says Hong Kong has nothing to fear from further mainland liberalisation

Hong Kong should not feel threatened by the opening up of mainland China's financial sector or the growth of Shanghai as a financial centre, as the developments provide it with new opportunities, Hong Kong Monetary Authority chief executive Norman Chan wrote today.

In a piece published on the HKMA website, Chan says it is "necessary as well as natural for Hong Kong to leverage on its unique position to increasingly strengthen its business, investment and cultural ties with different Mainland
