ECB’s Cipollone reveals plans for digital euro infrastructure

Mobile app to enable “basic functionality”, with transactions processed in three different regions

The European Central Bank executive board member with responsibility for the digital euro today (September 4) revealed some of the project’s key infrastructural aspects.

Piero Cipollone appeared before the European Parliament’s economic and financial affairs council (Ecofin) to discuss how the central bank digital currency would ensure resilience in payments while remaining accessible.

The ECB is to develop an app that will allow users to manage the “basic functions” of the digital euro, Cipollone
