Riksbank report explains basis for green asset purchases

Report sets out legal and operational basis for “norm-based negative screening”

A new report published by Sveriges Riksbank explains the legal and operational hurdles it had to overcome to implement greener asset purchases.

The central bank has chosen a policy of “norm-based negative screening” for its corporate bond purchases, say authors Magnus Andersson and Mikael Stenström. Companies must adhere to international standards on sustainability for their bonds to be eligible for central bank purchase.
