US CPI inflation sees minor fall

Shelter costs were the largest contributor to inflation for the second month in a row

Consumer price index (CPI) inflation was 6.4% in the year to January, down by 0.1 percentage points relative to December’s figure.

This is the seventh consecutive decline in the CPI reading since its June 2022 peak of 9.1%. Core inflation fell to 5.6% from the previous month’s reading of 5.7%. Both came in marginally higher than analysts had predicted.
