Elected officials could help continue the record-long US expansion if they take action, Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell said, adding that there is “still plenty of room” to build on economic gains.

The chairman restated comments made earlier this month in a hearing to Congress that lawmakers could “spur further progress by better preparing people to meet the challenges of technological innovation and global competition”.
