Bank of Spain board member quits hours after appointment
Cabrales had signed letters expressing support for Catalan pro-independence politicians
Economics professor Antonio Cabrales Goitia resigned from the Bank of Spain’s board on February 14, only hours after taking office.
He stepped down after media reported his name was attached to letters of support for two pro-independence Catalan politicians.
The Spanish government appointed Cabrales, a professor of economics at the Carlos III University in Madrid, to fill one of two vacancies on the 10-member governing council.
